Los Angeles Battles Unprecedented Heat Just Days After Severe Winter Storm.
In the wake of heavy downpours that led to inundation across parts of the city, Los Angeles is now confronting abnormally high weather for this time of year.
All-Time High Temperatures
During the day Friday, the temperature climbed to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown Los Angeles, as reported by weather officials. This breaks the old record for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was recorded just last year.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were highlighted on forecast charts for the region.
Public Health Alerts
Authorities issued a warning that Friday's heat posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for those at risk. Their recommendations featured:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a car.
A Sharp Weather Swing
This dramatic increase in mercury comes on the heels of a powerful storm system that pummeled the area last week. That storm unleashed thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to higher elevations, triggering flash flood warnings for many residents.
Sadly, the conditions also caused a massive avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.
Forecast Ahead
The outlook suggests some relief will arrive. Temperatures were forecast to fall to around 61°F (16°C) in the city by overnight.
Several cities that experienced 90°F featured Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Elsewhere, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were expected to experience the upper eighties.
Over Saturday and Sunday, central Los Angeles can anticipate weather in the 80s, with mid-70s temperatures likely for the following week.
