US Armed Forces Executes Deadly Attack in Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities

As stated by a high-ranking military spokesperson, the American armed forces executed a fatal strike on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, killing four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a deadly attack on a vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in narco-trafficking operations. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”

Background and Recent Strikes

The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, pledging to escalate the military buildup.

Only on the previous day, US defense officials said it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 strikes have killed at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Justifies Actions Amid Pressure

The administration has encountered increasing pressure to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a successful operation, saying it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.

While the administration has said the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to confirm a wider geopolitical aim. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the president “aims to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”

This suggests the series of strikes may be linked to a push to remove Venezuela's sitting government.
